Arena Football Returns to Albany, New York in 2018

The AFL will begin play in Spring 2018 at the Times Union Center

ALBANY - The Arena Football League (AFL) will return to Albany, NY with the team beginning play at the Times Union Center starting in the spring of 2018.  The soon-to-be-named team marks the first time the city has been represented in the AFL since leaving the market in 2000.  The Arena Football League, founded in 1987, will be entering its 31st season of play in 2018.

Following last Tuesday’s announcement of the Arena Football League returning to the Capital Region, Albany AFL has secured deposits for more than 500 season tickets.

“The response from the region is extremely encouraging,” said Albany AFL president John Adams.  “It’s clear there is an opportunity to be very successful here as long as we deliver on our promise to bring a consistent quality product on the field while offering a world-class entertainment experience for our fans.”

The response was generated primarily on the excitement from last week’s press conference.  The team has yet to even announce a team name, colors, a schedule, a head coach, or even have a local business staff in place.  All of the above will happen quickly in the coming weeks as the team builds to the inaugural game, which is expected to be in early April.

“The best part is, we have had this tremendous response before we’ve even become fully operational,” said Adams.  “Once we truly hit the ground running, we believe we will achieve our high expectations.  I have a feeling our home field advantage is going to be amazing.”
